EMAIL UPDATE FROM LIGHTHOUSE TRAILS:
MYANMAR UPDATE FROM UNDERSTAND THE TIMES

May 8, 2008 - As we reported a few days ago when the cyclone disaster hit Myanmar, Roger Oakland's ministry Understand the Times has four orphan homes in Yangon, Myanmar, and the welfare of the children and staff at the orphanages was unknown. We are overjoyed to report that Roger has now received emails from the homes, and all the children and workers at all four homes are safe! We are praising the Lord with Understand the Times for His graciousness and mercy to these precious ones. The devastation and loss of lives in Myanmar is staggering, and we pray that many there will turn to the Lord Jesus Christ and accept Him as Savior during this terrible time, where the death toll may rise as high as 100,000 with over a million people now homeless.

The following is a statement by Roger Oakland; also we have included two of the emails he received from Myanmar:

Update on Situation from Bryce Lodges in Yangon

Early this morning I received two more letters from our Understand The Times representatives in Yangon. All our immediate family have been preserved from the storm.

We are presently in the process of sending someone over to Yangon to provide assistance and to help organize the dispersal of assistance through Understand The Times in the surrounding area.

Please pray for favor that we may receive the necessary visas and be able to go.

A fund for supporting the victims of the Myanmar disaster has been established at www.understandthetimes.org.

Checks can be sent to our two offices in Canada and USA.

Following are the two letters that were received today:

Dear Roger,

Internet access was down, now only I can email you again. Hope that you are getting better in these days. With our children we are always praying for your health.

At the time thousands of people lose their lives, by His protection, we are survived but our programs and plan of wedding was failed on Saturday and changed on Sunday. It turned to helping others in needs especially for our members. Since every one was busy with his own work, phone line and transportation problems caused by the storm and flood, so we just called a church pastor, Philip and Dante and only some of our neighbor and made wedding at home.

We learned so many lessons from those things happened. we felt that God has taught
us not to love the world neither the things that are in the world. It made clear that our earthly life is just really temporary and unreliable. Now, the city of Yangon and it's surrounding areas lose it's beautifulness. It has a lot of changes and different from the time you came to Myanmar.... [The prices] of things are getting higher day by day.

And unlimited numbers of outskirt people are in trouble because they are homeless and without food. By His grace in this time we have privileges to show our love, care and concern to our church members at Shwelinpan who are in trouble by giving rice and the funds they are really in need.

Among our members at Shwelinpan, two of the tents (houses) were fallen down and faded away. another one of the roof was destroyed. One was survived.

If we can not continue to supply their need, they will be without food and house. So, I let you know the condition of our church members at Shwelinpan. Beside, thousands of outskirt people are in great trouble. they can not solve the problems they have by their own.

Please pray that these things lead them to know and trust the Saviour alone.

Your brother in Christ

Elisha

Dear
Brother Roger:

I am so sorry that I could not give you information about us earlier.

I know that many people concern about our situation. We are saved.

Bryce Lodges One, Two and my family are saved. We do not suffer any serious damages.
But the prices are sky rocketed.

Thank you so much for your concern.

Prayer Requests:

1. Give thanks to God for He has saved us from this storm.

2. Pray for all the Bryce children for the coming admissions to the school. Usually,
admissions start about May 20.

Sincerely yours,
Mang

"C. S. Lewis[1] was one of the most influential, if not the most influential,

Anglican writer of the twentieth century. Any informed Western Christian

could not have lived in the middle and latter twentieth century without

having encountered Lewis, for he was both prolific and well-publicized.

When I was young, I was enamored of Lewis, as, I suppose,

many young people are. After his death in November 1963,

the C. S. Lewis literary-theological complex developed in the

United States, with scores, if not hundreds, of books and thousands

of essays about Lewis published, largely by his admirers.

His books have sold in the millions, far more after his death than

at any time during his life. Despite all this, there has been little

critical attention paid to the theological ideas that Lewis actually

taught in his books, even by those who call themselves Protestants

and Evangelicals. I have given a provocative title to my talk in an

attempt to provoke some of these people to think critically about

 Lewis’ theology."

"Lewis believed in the Church's sacraments,

believed in Purgatory, and even referred to

"Was Lewis an orthodox Christian? On many points of doctrine he was not
and it leaves one disturbingly wondering. Lewis's theology is so strewn,
it is hard to understand his biblical logic and beliefs on many issues.
My personal conclusion is that Lewis was plagued, confused and haunted
with his religious entanglement of Romanism, Anglicanism, Darwinism,
Arminianism and his deficient view of the authority and veracity of the Scriptures."

& Tonight Mother's Day thoughts :

An evening of thankful thoughts~

http://library.timelesstruths.org/music/Count_Your_Blessings/midi/

Daughters~

Daughters are a blessing from God.

They brighten your days with smiles and songs.

They love to do the things that would be monotonous

without their added excitement in learning the task at hand.

They laugh with you and sometimes at you.

They finish your sentences.

They hug you with feeling.

They teach you new things that they've been reading about.

They look at each day as a blessing to be lived with zest.

They giggle at your eccentricities.

They look in your eyes with feeling and depth.

They care and take care of you when you are not feeling well.

They make sure you are:

eating right, sleeping enough, getting enough fluids.

They kindly chide you to do the right thing.

They put up with songs you sing from the '70s.

They iron your clothes, make your bed and leave you precious

notes of love & encouragement throughout the house.

They love to work in the garden.

They are hand crafters; bread, jam and jelly makers,

and lovers of all things domestic.

They love to play music.

They exhibit anew the joy of and in the Lord.

They take on tasks with enthusiasm and often

exceed your own skills and abilities.

What a blessing daughters are.

What a gift of life and love.

Thank you Lord for my three sweet ones,

You have been so gracious to me!

****************************************************************************

Sons~

They are full of energy, full of life.

They are optimistic and thoughtful.

They are discussers of deep thoughts and fun stories.

They discuss...everything and are very interesting and thoughtful.

They are silly joke tellers both practical and verbal.

They tease with affection.

They are strong workers and movers of all things needed in the home.

They are good sports when Mom changes her mind

about where something should be put.  Surprised

They are sweet huggers and kind carers.

They aren't too old to show affection.

They stand for good and against evil.

They show compassion for those who are hurting.

They show kindness to the elderly.

They can act as your conscience through bringing up

situations that make you think.

They are understanders of math and science,

logic fans and computer problem figure-outers.

They are story, article and essay writers--expressing views, opinions

and convictions as they write.

They love and respect their parents.

They encourage their siblings.

They take care of the animals.

They defend the truth, love the Lord and believe

that His word is the truth for all of life.

What blessing it is to have sons.

What a gift of strength and love.

Thank you Lord for my two sons.

You have been so gracious to me!
